However, many people do not know that one of the most important things to start with is to choose the right keywords and only then start with SEO.
In this post, we will explain how to find the right keywords for your service or product in order to find the right users for your service.
What is an SEO keyword?
A keyword is a word or phrase used by a person to find the answer to their problem on Google. Another keyword is a word or phrase that describes the text of your website’s service or product.
For example, since we do website design, our keywords are website creation, website design, website price, and so on. In other words, the visitor searches Google for “making a website” and finds our website where it is written about.
What is a good keyword?
A good keyword is an exact keyword. This is exactly the kind of keyword with which you can immediately understand that a person is still looking for an answer to their problem from a specialist. Maybe you want to buy this service / product, not do it yourself and just research.
A good keyword is often a Long Tail Keyword , which is a multi-word keyword that sometimes makes a whole sentence.
Examples of our field are the bad keyword “website” and the good keyword “website making”. An even better keyword for this is “website making cost”.
In the case of the latter, we can say with certainty that the person who is looking for this way wants to be offered this service. In the case of an average keyword, it can also be assumed that you are not looking for a maker, but rather how to do it yourself.
Also, very good keywords are location-based, such as “dog grooming in Tallinn.” They are especia useful for you—if you do not offer your service all over Estonia and are not looking for a customer elsewhere.
Long-tailed keywords are often lower in the competition. Their only downside is that they are few and the search results are therefore shorter. The big plus, however, is that they convert well.
There are 4 keyword types in total.
- Navigate – The search engine searches for a web page. These types of keywords are mainly used to strengthen a company’s brand and image.
- Informative – looking for an answer to your question. Example:
- “How to find the right SEO keyword”. This type of informative keyword is often used in SEO content marketing. Works well when building a customer relationship.
- Investigate – The search looks for any phrase that may lead to a later lead For example, “Website Making”. A specific service is already being introduced and offered.
- Buying – a person knows what he wants and is looking for a place to buy it: “Apple iphone x price”.
Let’s start with finding the SEO keyword
Now that you’ve figured out what a good keyword is and figured out which keyword type to use, the next step would be to find out if your suggested keyword is also being searched for, or if there’s an even better keyword instead.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Put a large amount of keywords in Excel or Word that describe your service or product. Write everything that comes to mind, there are no wrong answers here. Write them separated by commas – it’s easier to add keywords afterwards. Also go through competitors’ websites and try to find important keywords there. You can find them in the names of the services, in the page titles, in the content, in the meta title and description, in the content and sometimes in the footer.
- Go to Google.com and enter your keyword to find Long Tail keywords. Also write them on your list.

Analysis – Find keyword type and number of searches
There are several places to analyze your keyword, and you can find the right one by typing “Keyword search tool” or “Keyword tool” into Google.

Google Ads Account – This is an official Google Account that allows you to see the official results added by Google itself. You must have a Google Ads account to see this correctly. In addition, this account may have been operational at some point, because if you haven’t used it, Google will no longer want to show adequate results. As you can see in the image, the results are vague and choose another tool for analysis.
To use a Google Ads account, log in and go to “Tools -> Keyword planner” in the top corner. Type (copy) your keywords and click this big blue Get started button.
You’ll see keywords and their searches on a monthly basis. Look in the corner above to determine the correct language and location for your search results.
As you can see, a full list of keywords you’ve added will appear. Google is adding more recommendations. Some keywords may be very incorrect inside. Just ignore them.
There is also a column called “Competition” in the picture. Remember, this means paid advertising competition, not SEO competition.
Now the search results became known. Choose the right keywords for you, focusing on keyword searches. For example, some keywords will definitely show you 0 results. In other words, this keyword is not searched for and there is no point in focusing on it.
KWfinder – If you don’t have a Google Ads account, there’s no point in peeking. Then use kwfinder.com, for example .
There, you can find your keyword searches, similar to a Google Account. However, it is limited and you can do 5 searches a day. If you are cunning, you can search for more results through VPN.
In any case, it makes more sense to create a paid account, because then the tool will show more keywords and be more convenient to use.
Analysis – Determining Keyword Competition
Once you’ve found the right keywords for your search results, the last step is to compete with those keywords. In other words, how easy it would be to rank these keywords with SEO.
The first step is definitely to “Google” your found keyword.
For example, what to look for:
- Search social media profiles. If you put Facebook, Instagram, Google+, etc. accounts on the first page of search results, the keyword will have little competition.
- View meta titles and descriptions – If there are matches in the search results that don’t have a keyword in the title, then keyword competition is low.
